- School Safety Plan
- Teanna- The safety plan is reviewed at the first faculty meeting each year where we go over all drills and supplies. We have a practice drill once a month. The drills are happening at different times of the day and most of the staff is not told when they are happening in an attempt to make the drills more realistic. Our goal is to come up with something to present to parents in case of an emergency, so they know what to expect. Troy wants to talk about safety in each SCC meeting and then at the end of the year have something to present to the parents. The school is working towards having a system in place where everyone knows what to do even if key people are absent. Students get released from drills by two forms of communication.
- The drills are:
- Hold
- Secure
- Evacuate
- Shelter in place
- Lockdown

- Are there any additional items or concerns that need to be brought up?

- Digital Citizenship
- Student Training - Heidi Allen teaches this during the school year. - Heidi Allen, teaching kids to be safe and responsible online, yearly, common sense media website, breaks books down into categories, great for families to use too. She makes it age-appropriate for the kids. Safety is the primary concern.
- Safe Routes
- Map Approval - Troy
- PBIS
- Lisa Anderson- Positive behavior intervention system (PBIS): All faculty have tickets. You get one for being safe, kind, and responsible, working towards three rewards throughout the year (Donut Day, Minute-To-Win-It games, Throw A Pie At A Teacher) Every week we have a spot on drawing from the tickets. Everyone gets a chance to win. We reinforce rules based on the school motto “Safe, Kind, Responsible” for behaviors and will have posters for each spot with the rules on them. We start out at the beginning of the year with a behavior boot camp. We use Skills at a Glance for teachers to teach them if the kids are not behaving appropriately. The school counselor teaches them monthly, and teachers have steps to go through when the kids are having trouble. A Think Sheet is used for documentation of behavior and tracking of behavior. It is great to have a common standard of behavior for everyone in the school. Kids know our expectations. We have an attendance plan. The youngest grades have chronic absenteeism state-wide. It’s the same here. It’s not making up the work; that’s the problem. It's the loss of instruction time with the teachers. Kids learning is dropping, and chronic absenteeism is worse in elementary than in high school. Parents don’t look at foundational learning as critical in elementary school. They say it’s just elementary. We want to develop a homework policy for the school. We may want to create a 30-second video about absenteeism. We want to send out an email with information about the programs.
- Principal - emergency procedures are being refined. Instructing kids on what to do works better than teaching the parents directly. Pick-up now is safer and faster. It helped to teach the kids the expectations.
- Other
- Are there any additional items or concerns that need to be brought up?
- Let’s paint a crosswalk out the front doors to get parents to use an area that is watched more.

- Trustland Fund Expenditures
- 60 iPads will be ordered this week for 1st Grade (This will cost $19,440 for devices and $2700 for software. This leaves $4,640 for teacher computers.) iPads are surplused to a vendor, so we cannot sell them to parents.
- Reading and Math Aides ($26,996 out of $48,443 has been spent). We are right on par; all expenses are a month late.
- TSSA Fund Expenditures
- Part of our school counselor’s pay ($16,970)
- Reading and Math Aides ($19,443.24 out of $35,000 has been spent)
- RTI Facilitators and Kindergarten teachers helping with Kindergarten testing at the beginning of the year ($1,593.71)
- PLC Training presenter, food, facility, and parking ($797.17), at USU
- 7 Classroom TVs ($5,960 - Matching funds paid for the other half of the cost.)
- iReady License ($4250)
- Teacher computers will be ordered this week, which will exhaust our money.
- Safety Plan Discussion - Teanna over it
- Student pick-up location and procedures in case of an emergency
- An A-frame sign would be placed outside the front doors if we can’t be in the building. It should be easily accessible to pull out and put at the front of the building. It needs to be easy to read for parents to know where to pick up kids. We need to have it in English and Spanish. We need staff out there who speak both languages if possible. We could have color sign or flag to draw attention to where we want parents to head. For some emergencies being at the school would be too close. We would go to the Lewiston Library, Church building, Park, Ballroom- (Gas leak, fire, earthquake). Bathrooms will be needed and keys for these places.
- Parents come to a checkout station on the west side of the building. Kids will only be checked out to those on the contact list from PowerSchool.
- Parents would be notified by phone call, text, and email.
- Parents will check students out on a piece of paper. The papers will be on clipboards and will be easy to grab on the way out of the building. We may want to encourage parents and staff to use the Talking Points app to communicate with teachers for quick teacher communication. It will translate things into Spanish.
- What other information would parents need to know?
- Show parents where to go and what to do. Evacuations reunification needs to be quick and efficient if possible. Parents need to know kids will be with their teacher. Runners will get the kids instead of parents. Our new walkie talkies have rechargeable batteries and are used , daily for bus duty use. How are we going to handle crowd control. A megaphone at the checkout location may be helpful. Our check out station needs to be closer to the gate. Tables are already out in the shed. Who grabs the tables? They will need a key to open the door.. We want to practice this process with a few parents to go through the process. How many people do we need to direct traffic.
